This classic Margherita pizza boasts a crisp crust topped with rich tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and fragrant basil leaves for a truly authentic Italian experience. Perfect for any occasion, it’s a dish that’s as delightful to prepare as it is to eat.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil for drizzling
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast; let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.

Mix in olive oil and salt, then gradually add flour, kneading until a smooth dough forms.

Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 15 minutes.

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).

Roll out the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.

Transfer the rolled-out dough to a lightly oiled baking sheet or pizza stone.
